Although Mother Bear urges Alfie to be patient and sleep, he cannot wait to see tiny butterflies on the wing and hear baby birds chirp in the trees.

When Alfie learns that he is to have a baby brother or sister, he's very excited, but as winter approaches, the baby still hasn't arrived, and Alfie is afraid it might be lost. Off he sets to find the new baby but just as he's about to give up hope, father bear comes looking for him.
