Recent years have seen a major increase in public interest and participation in archaeology. This is reflected in the mushrooming of "heritage", new museums and "experiences" such as the Jorvik Viking Centre in York, as well as more press and television coverage. There have also been theoretical developments. Philip Rahtz has taken that into account and has expanded, revised and updated the first edition of his work which contains many practical examples and anecdotes as well as new case studies.
