The Highland Renegade by Amy Jarecki

The Highland Renegade

by Amy Jarecki

Sir Robert Grant, chieftain of Clan Grant, has earned his reputation. Deadly with knives and the ultimate Highlander, Robert will stop at nothing to protect his clan from the government dragoons. Tough and proud, he has no time for a woman of any sort. But when a Highland daughter is incarcerated, Robert and his men ride to the rescue, regardless of his bloody feud with her father. Rescuing the lass will serve two purposes-both yielding coveted revenge.

A strong-willed and innocent beauty, Janet Cameron refuses to comply with her red-coated captors. Finding the opportunity to flee, she falls straight into the camp of the slippery Clan Grant. At every opportunity, Janet attempts to escape to home, but her efforts are thwarted by that damnable too-good-looking laird who continually knocks her off guard.

Though Janet challenges Robert at every turn, he swears he will not weaken to temptation. But danger and treachery loom, drawing them closer into each other's arms. Backed into a corner, this hardened warrior must make the most important decision of his life: vengeance or love.

I adore this series so much, so when Forever offered me a copy of The Highland Renegade, you better believe I jumped on it! In this story, we get a bit of a Hatfields and McCoys twist. The heroine's family has feuded with the hero's clan for a while. So, Janet doesn't think highly of Robert. Robert doesn't let that stop him from saving her!

Janet certainly is sassy so don't assume this is a typical historical romance. There isn't the Regency behaviors and I find that freeing. After a few initial meetings, Janet and Rob end up fleeing danger together which always leads to intense feelings. But then they are separated again. However, now they both know there are mutual feelings for each other and Rob isn't going to let anything get in the way. His opportunity comes when Janet is in danger (again).

Rob is a wonderful hero! He is strong and brave and, despite Janet's family's feelings, a good and honorable man. I really enjoyed his character and his drive to fight for Janet. Like I mentioned above, you do get a kind of feuding families story here and these 2 wonder if they could ever be together. Its all very West Side Story and I totally dug that!

The Highland Renegade is perfect for fans of historical romance who want something different than a regency and like the slightly forbidden vibe in their romance. I hope Jarecki continues to write this series-I am very interested in Rob's sister! Also, her attention to historical detail is delightful! As a history major, I just love when an author really puts in the time and effort to be as historically accurate as possible, especially for a less common time period.
