"Janet Evanovich, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum series, teams up with Emmy-winning writer Phoef Sutton for a brand-new series of thrillers featuring charmingly eccentric Emerson Knight and professional go-getter Riley Moon"--
"A brand-new series introducing a fun and entertaining crime-solving team with great romantic chemistry--fiesty financial analyst Riley Moon and eccentric savant Emerson Knight. Riley Moon is a junior analyst at a mega-bank, when she uncovers what looks like an embezzlement scheme that could lead straight to the top. With his gold gone missing and analysts disappearing, famously eccentric Emerson Knight, the bank's biggest client, decides to take on his own investigation. With Emerson's laserlike focus and ability to see clues no one else sees, and Riley's financial-whiz mind and street savvy, this unlikely pair will uncover one of the biggest crimes of the century"--
Janet Evanovich is a powerhouse of a writer, author of the phenomenal Stephanie Plum series (I am on book 12 and I love it), and here she has teemed up with Phoef (how in the world do you pronounce that name?!!) Sutton and they’re collaborating on this new Knight & Moon series (it’s not their first collaboration though) and book one is Curious Minds and it’s a really intriguing read. Entirely different to Stephanie Plum so if that’s what you’re after, you’ll have to find it elsewhere, but still thoroughly enjoyable, for me at least.
What really makes Curious Minds work is the fact that Emerson Knight and Riley Moon are complete opposites. Riley is steadfast, believes in a strong work ethic, whereas Emerson is a bit of a weirdo hippy-type character. Very Sherlock-Holmes-esque (although he’ll hate the comparison) with his quirky ideas and I still have no idea why he wanted to investigate the disappearance of Gunter. But it’s a really fun adventure, with conspiracies flying around everywhere, gold (I didn’t even know that was still a thing; I have never in my life seen a bar of gold in real life), Riley tagging along with Emerson even though she thinks he’s a crank. Is there chemistry there? I have no idea, but there’s something, an idea of something, and I’m sooooooo intrigued to see where it goes!
I really enjoyed Curious Minds. I’m excited to read book two, I loved how the pace just goes at the speed of light, and Emerson has these crazy ideas that he never shares with Riley, and she goes along with it anyway. It’s entertaining, easy to follow (despite the entire plot sounding a bit out there for my liking), and I liked it. No, it isn’t Stephanie Plum but it’s good on its own, and I can’t wait for the next adventure. These two really do make a perfect team.
