A suspense thriller without any real suspense, making it fairly flat and somehow the characters are just a little bit paper thin and there to carry the story rather than actually have a purpose. The bad guys were unremittingly bad and there were no christian good guys in the vatican to help our heroes fight the good fight, which I find a lot strange.
The first book in the series was much better. The details of the magic working was interesting but overall unsatisfying.
