Destiny's Road

by Larry Niven

Larry Niven is the author of science fictions classics such as the RINGWORLD series, THE INTEGRAL TREES and DREAM PARK. He is the creator of the popular MAN-KZIN series and co-author of bestsellers such as LUCIFER'S HAMMER and THE LEGACY OF HEOROT and the no.1 New York Times bestseller - FOOTFALL. Now he returns in grand form with the story of Planet Destiny, mankind's second attempt at colonising an inhabitable planet of a distant star. Following a fight which ends in the accidental death of a trader, Jimmy Blocher is forced to flee the small community of Spiral Town. There is only one road he can follow - the long, straight road that was forged by the heat of lander-craft Cavorite as it left the same town 250 years ago.

Niven proves that more is not always better with this winding tale about a young man who grows up to be a middle aged man while making his way down his planet’s main road and trying to figure out the world’s big secret. He comes across all these interesting communities along the way, and some of the scenes are great, but I found myself wishing some would hurry up and others were cut entirely. Most disappointing, the big reveal at the end (which I won’t give away) is disappointing.
