The Pact by Karina Halle

The Pact (The McGregor Boys, #1)

by Karina Halle

The Pact is a FULL-LENGTH STANDALONE (not part of a series, no cliffhanger, fully wrapped-up novel) "FRIENDS-TO-LOVERS" CONTEMPORARY ADULT ROMANCE

It all started with a pinky swear…

Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome; a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He’s also one of Stephanie Robson’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she’s known him.

Beautiful, funny and an ambitious businesswoman (with one hell of an ass), Stephanie Robson is one of Linden McGregor’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as he’s known her.

But some relationships can’t be boxed, can’t be classified, can’t be tamed.

Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them were in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.

It sounded like fun and games at the time but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.

Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line.

The pact is about to change everything.

Note: due to the dirty talk and sexy times, The Pact is not meant for anyone under the age of 18. All characters in THE PACT are in their thirties, therefore this is NOT a new adult book...even though love can mess you up at any age.

4.5 - The perfect easy read! While still emotional at times, Steph and Linden were easy to love, and I started rooting for them from page one. Written while Halle was on vacation, THE PACT tells the story of two friends and their journey to the realization that there is no better partner in life than your best friend.

Of course there would be no story to tell if Linden and Stephanie realized it right away, now would there? At 25 they make a pact that, at 30, if neither of them are in a serious relationship they were going to get married. While it is pretty easy to determine if this story has an HEA (happily ever after) or not, it takes a few unexpected roads before you get to the end.

There are many other reviews that wax poetic about Linden ... mmmm, Linden ... so while as yummy as he is, I want to focus on Stephanie. Our female lead is a wonderfully strong yet surprisingly vulnerable character. I think many of us could find something to relate with in her. She can hang with the guys like the best of them, yet her femininity is never in question. Her hair changes colors almost as often as some of us change diet programs, but that makes her unique and fun.

There are some parts that made me angry, but rather than put the book down I kept reading late into the night, because I needed to see how things resolved. And oh boy, let me tell you ... or not. I am not going to ruin that! What kind of person do you take me for?! ;-)

If you like sweet friends to lovers stories, growing up with characters, learning with characters how to overcome obstacles big and small to make relationships work, and sexy Scottish immigrants (ok, I went there) then THE PACT is certainly for you!
