I received this book for free from Obsidian in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but after reading this one I now want to go back and read them all! Even without the context of previous books, I wasn't lost reading this one at all. It was easy to connect with the characters, and enough was explained in passing that I understood both what was going on in this book, as well as things that happened in earlier ones to get to this point.

Once I started reading, I didn't want to put it down until I'd finished it. And as we all know, that's the hallmark of a great book! I also didn't guess who the killer was until the very last pages, just before the big reveal. And that's something else I love, not having an obvious bad guy.

I admit I liked Buck the dalmatian. He was cute, and helpful to setting scenes to make them seem a little bit more romantic than they would have otherwise been between Phyllis and Sam.

The recipes at the end of the book were varied and most sounded good. They include: Hearty White Chili Casserole, Hearty Breakfast Casserole, Peanut Butter & Sweet Potato Dog Biscuits, Pumpkin Dog Biscuits, Coconut Cream Pie Cookies, Pumpkin Vanilla Chip Cookies, Hero Sandwich, and Oatmeal Berry Streusel Muffins.
