Will the fight against Fate end the way that the Bonheim sisters want?
Jayce Bonheim
Jayce is our main character and our witchy sleuth. She finds herself in the position of saving the town from the magical bad guys. However, she doesn't have to do it alone; her sisters are there to help her if she stops to let them in. It felt like Jayce learned a lot about herself and the people of Doyle.
What I like about Jayce is she tries to protect all of the townspeople. She also wasn't afraid to call her friend out what she thought her friend had done. Braydon and Jayce have a good relationship; it was nice to see them working together. The only thing that bothers me about Jayce is she doesn't always communicate well. Other than that, she is a great character.
The Mystery
We have a few murders and then the whole mystery of who, why, and what the Black Lodge wants with Doyle. Things are moving fast, and it feels like as soon as Jayce finds a clue, the next issue is surfacing. I liked the way the sisters work together to solve the magical side of the problems.
Also, the author gives us a police blotter at the beginning of each chapter, which keeps us on track of what is going on in the town and made me laugh.
Five Stars
Fate by Kirsten Weiss is a well-crafted story with amazing characters, a lovely setting, and the right amount of intrigue. I loved it. Therefore I am giving it five stars. I highly recommend this to all cozy paranormal readers.
Remember, if you want to see what the mundanes went through, check out my review of Close Encounters of the Curd Kind. It's the other side of what is happening in Doyle; you know the UFO, aliens, and the same mass hysteria.
