I have yet to be truly disappointed by Nalini Singh and Storm Echo was no exception. This one was a really sweet, relationship and little light on the series plot progress. It worked for me and I LOVED the characters. It would have been 5 stars if the series plot progression had been more satisfying.
Soleil is such an incredible character, with so much heart despite how much she's been through. I particularly enjoyed seeing the "original" pack - the Hunters - through her eyes; their interactions have usually been observed from internal members or the VERY CLOSE wolves. Soleil is coming from such a different perspective and it was really interesting to see and still so heartwarming ultimately.
And then we have Ivan. Whoo. I always enjoy being with the Mercant family and Ivan is particularly interesting because of his childhood and how he became part of the Mercant family. He has an awful lot of heart and being raised in that family gave him even more. It's through his background and unique abilities that we get the plot progression we do get and it's a doozy.
But man, we really only got plot progression in the last 15% and while it was GOOD, I'm still missing some really key developments... I've been waiting for IDK 8 books? to see Ming get handled. And he's mentioned less and less (not once in this book I think). So I'm really ready for Ms. Singh to move this plot forward!
Angela Dawe continues to deliver a flawless performance and I'm so glad to be able to listen to these books. I always listen at 2x speed and I really enjoy the way the characters are so diverse and consistent across the series.
