It’s gonna take me a while to get tired of the way Heyer plays out a battle of wits. Here, the bluffs get called and the stakes escalate until there’s blackmail and kidnapping and so many parts had me laughing out loud.

“He means to fight it out with me,” she said, her eyes lighting up. “Well, and so he shall!”
