Untouchable by Kresley Cole

Untouchable (Immortals After Dark, #7)

by Kresley Cole

In this paranormal story from the Deep Kiss of Winter anthology, #1 New York Times best-selling author Kresley Cole delivers a breathtaking tale about a brutal vampire soldier who experiences love for the first time...and a Valkyrie aching to be touched.

Murdoch Wroth will stop at nothing to claim Daniela the Ice Maiden -- the delicate Valkyrie who makes his heart beat for the first time in three hundred years. Yet the exquisite Danii is part ice fey, and her freezing skin can't be touched by anyone but her own kind without inflicting pain beyond measure. Soon desperate for closeness, in an agony of frustration, Murdoch and Danii will do anything to have each other. Together, can they find the key that will finally allow them to slake the overwhelming desire burning between them?

The timeline of Murdoch Wroth and Daniela's story overlaps those of the previous Wroth brothers and Cole managed quite well. While each book works on its own, I highly recommend reading them in order. Timelines, key characters, and a Seer name Nix enhance the stories the further we progress into the series.

After 300 years, Murdoch finds his fated mated and his heart begins beating. I was very curious to learn Murdoch story. He has popped in and out of the previous books and Cole even hinted about him finding his mate. Daniela is Valkyrie but also part Icere. Her ice fey side has left her in hiding and unable to touch anyone.

Murdoch saves her and their messy, heated haters to lovers romance begins. Of course, Murdoch wants to deny his mate is a Valkyrie and then to not be able to touch her really sets him off. They get creative in the passion department, but their romance was turbulent with bickering and frustrations. I could have skipped the angst and miscommunication between them and often wanted to bop them on the heads. However, I did like that Cole reversed roles have Daniela be the one who pursues Murdoch. We get to see character growth between the two of them and got to visit Icere. Sacrifice, commitment, and determination made way for a sentimental and heartwarming ending.

Robert Pedkoff continues his stellar narration and for me, he brings these tales to life. His ability to handle both the female and male voices in addition to creating unique voices for them delivered a treat to my ears. I love that as soon as someone speaks I know who they are without any indicators.

Far from my favorite in this series, UNTOUCHABLE did offer humor, introduced new characters and had Nix heavily involved throughout. She is hands down my favorite character and I enjoyed her snark and meddling. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer
