Eulogy. GAH. What....Why....Wait.....GAH!!! Seriously, I'm not sure I will be able to say more words than that about this book.

Chase is a mess after his wife's betrayal and death. I was a bit leery about this plot line because Mil's death was a surprise. Killing off a major character is risky; Mil has been the main character in her own book as well as a major character throughout the story since her intro in book 3. But, it wasn't gonna keep me from reading!

Add to this drama the mystery of "Agent P" who is telling the FBI everything about the families. WTF?! I spent a ton of time guessing who might be this rat, but honestly, I was wrong. I won't give it away or give any hints. Maybe you will see the clues I missed?!

Luciana is a delight. When Van Dyken killed off Andi and set Sergio up with Val I was skeptical. But Val totally stole my heart and became one of my favorite characters. Luciana had the same effect! She is spunky and intelligent. She stands up for herself even when she is terrified, yet manages to not come off as some kind of hardened badass. I was never a #TeamMil fan, so her death was kind of meh for me anyway. Regardless, Luc is endearing and lovely! The last few mafia ladies have been fantastic and more dynamic. Mil always felt like a stereotype in some way. I struggled with Chase throughout the book. I understood his pain and desire for revenge, but he was just NOT Chase anymore. While I understood that from a story telling angle, as a reader, I just wanted him to be the Chase I fell in love with. Sigh....

Redemption, death, family drama, murder, and resurrection coincide in Eulogy! To fully appreciate this world that Van Dyken has created, you really do need to read the previous books. Could you read it as a stand alone? Maybe. But I don't advise it! Eulogy brings back so many characters from previous books and loops plot twists from former books into the story that even I had trouble keeping up because I have forgotten parts of the books!

  • POV: multiple 1st

  • Tears: no

  • Trope: mafia

  • Triggers: not triggers per se, but there is a lot of murder and violence

  • Series/Standalone: series

  • Cliffhanger: not for Chase and Luciana, but there are certainly some major bombs dropped that will need more explaining!

  • HEA: it feels like an HFN...maybe because I am a bit worried that RVD will keep killing people off

Judgement Road by Christine Feehan, Beautiful Killer by Sherilee Grey, Rocco by Sarah Castille...then you will probably like Eulogy!
