This book is magical and beyond anything I had expected. Arden's writing completely sucks you into her Russian fairytale-inspired fantasy. Her tale is so original and rich that it was only after I finished reading that I recognized all the Cinderella elements that she interwove into the book. Vasya is one of my favorite new protagonists. She's "different" without being a "special snowflake", and I loved how she could be both strong and vulnerable. The elements of Russian folklore were also fascinating to read about, and Vasya's relationship with the frost demon Morozko was beautifully subtle yet promising. If you love fantasy and Russian folklore, I highly recommend picking this first book up. I predict this series will become one of my favorites.
