The Raven King is the conclusion to the story of Blue Sargent, Richard Gansey, Adam Parrish, Noah Czerny, and Ronan Lynch. Will they finally find Glendower? Will Gansey really die? All of this, we find out in this final installment of the Raven Cycle.
Let me tell you, it took me so long to finish this book. I think I started it at the beginning of the month, and I honestly just kept putting it down and picking up other books as well. It's not that I didn't like the book, in fact I rather enjoyed it, but the previous three had been a bit too much I guess. For some reason this story refused to stick in my mind and I was confused so many times while reading all four books.
I mean I got the general storyline, but honestly there was just too much going on at the same time, and I really didn't know how it was all supposed to be connected. The Raven King did connect these stories together in the end, and I am grateful for that, but I don't know - as much as I loved the characters and the magic-y feel of these books, I just didn't love them enough.
Like I said, I loved the characters in this series; Blue, Gansey, Adam, Ronan, Noah, the women of 300 Fox Way; all of the characters were great. There was a little romance in this series, but it wasn't overpowering at all. What I did found kind of strange though was the sudden romance between Adam and Ronan; I never had expected them to end up together, because I never saw them as potential lovers you know? So them kissing in this book kind of felt - to me - like it came out of nowhere As for the baddies, every book seemed to have a new bad guy and that annoyed me a bit. This book still had Piper Greenmantle, from the previous book, but then there were some new baddies added and I honestly don't get why they were there. Why not keep Piper as the main baddie? Also I don't really get why Henry was suddenly added to the gang, why not add him before instead of just last-minute throwing him into the story?
It was still great writing, and that is something I really enjoyed about these books. I am honestly going to try to read more of Maggie's books, though I am not sure which book I am picking up next. I did enjoy this series, but I don't think it'll become one of my favourite series of all time. I am glad I read them, so I now know what the hype is about, so I'd like to thank Lynn for not only recommending the books to me, but actually lending out her entire series to me. I am so sorry I've kept these books for so long!
