The Boy Who Cried Ninja

by Alex Latimer

Once there was a boy named Tim whom no one believed, even when he was telling the truth. No one believed that it was a ninja who snaffled the last slice of cake; or that a giant squid ate his homework; or that it really was a time-travelling monkey who was throwing pencils at Grampa. How can Tim get his parents to believe him - when the truth is too incredible to be true?

The Boy Who Cried Ninja is a funny little book about the consequences of lying, owning up to the truth, as well as taking the blame for others.

Tim tells his parents the truth when they asks questions like “Did you do your homework?” and “Who took the last piece of cake?”, unfortunately the truth is a bit out there and they don’t believe him. I love all of the stories he told his parents, and I loved the ending as well.

The illustrations have nice pastel and soft tones, and are drawn in a super simple but super cute way.

This is definitely one that earn a few giggles from me, so I think it’ll be a hit with the kids. Though it might be a bit confusing if you’re using this to teach them not to lie, as it doesn’t follow the typical cautionary tale type direction.
