This was much better than the first book in the series. It had a plot. I didn't hate the characters. There's actually some character development in this one. I liked Lauren - she was feisty and outspoken. I liked that she felt guilty for attempting to steal the jewels and was willing to try to make it up to Max. Max was likeable and more or less a gentleman. I liked that Max believed her when the jewel was stolen the second time (sure he can scent lies, but he also trusted her right off the bat). I liked Max's willingness to respect her as an equal - asking for her to stay with him and stand by his side. I liked that Lauren was willing to stand up to her parents. The plot was interesting - even if completely obvious as to who the villain of such was, but it kept me entertained. Like the first book, this is erotica - so there's sex - but it doesn't overwhelm the plot so much as to not have one. The sex is entwined with the story, they jump into bed but they also manage to have a conversation, have dinner together and communicate more than five words. It's not a fantastic story, but it's decent. 3 stars.
