Getting involved with him is dangerous, but ignoring their simmering tension is impossible...

When Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls, she realises that someone from her past is refusing to let her go. When the devastating truth comes out, will Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

I'm a fan of J. Lynn's Gamble Brother series as well as the Lux series written as Jennifer Armentrout. I was anxiously awaiting this series because I couldn't wait to see what she had to offer in the New Adult realm. This was everything I was anticipating and more!

The story and the characters were complex and didn't get weighed down by college hijinks. Instead we had a girl in desperate need to get away from her uncaring parents, the horrible kids that were in her community in Texas and the lies and humiliation the surround a horrify incident from when she was fourteen. For all intents and purposes, Avery was broken, but she was determined to find a way to carry on. She just never expected that what would finally be the tipping point in her recovery was the campus playboy who just happened to lived across the hall from her.

Avery and Cam were so special, both together and separately. Cam had a way of working his way under Avery's skin with his witty banter and charm. Despite Avery's skiddishness, he never pushed her. He would joke with her, do things for her and those actions demonstrated to Avery that maybe this was a man who would be good for her. The amount of emotional baggage the poor girl carried around was understandable and you knew she was sometimes overwhelmed by all things Cam and would push him away. But Cam, despite some of his statements and actions was always waiting for Avery. If she wasn't going to fall in love with him, I was!!

Some of the subject matter is hard and some of the character's reactions to the subject matter even worse (I cringed every time Avery would say her cell phone had a text). To me, it just proved the level of ignorance adults and teens have about how hateful their words and actions are. Or even worse, how indifference or selfishness could be worse than the actual event itself.

This is a must read by an author who was already on my auto-buy list. This wonderfully written story and it's cast of charming characters has me in it's clutches from the very beginning. I look forward to more in the New Adult genre from J. Lynn.
