Not sure if there was a preferred reading order between Batgirl #26 and Batgirl Annual #2. They came out in the same week. I chose to read the annual first, and I’m pretty happy with that choice. That one was heavy, though to be honest so was this one. It seems like Batgirl has had a lot of bad luck in the creep department lately.

As started in the last issue, Barbara is still going after Grotesque. And man, did that guy earn his name. He started out as a petty thief, but managed to bring himself all the way to demented murdered all on his own. Now he kills people and poses their bodies and the crime scenes like a piece of art. It’s incredibly twisted. Also, as an art history major I couldn’t take an extra level of offense to this, not to mention I felt horrified by some of the images shown (well done to the creative team for that emotional impact).

This issue ended in a cliffhanger, and I’m more than a little bit anxious to see what happens next. Normally I’d say that everything will sort itself out, but they spent a lot of time reminding us of Barbara’s old injuries, and how they’ve been treated.
