I received an ARC through NetGalley.

Rum Runner reminded me a lot of the movie Fool's Gold. Although it has a younger cast and it's not quite as funny. Sophie has been hanging on to a medallion for her absent father for awhile, and now he wants it back. She's not just going to hand it over though. She finally wants to meet the man who ran out on her and her mother. However, when she arrives, her father isn't there. Instead, she's faced with Jimmy and a hoard of bad guys who want her father. Sophie should just return to England where she's safe, but for some reason she just can't bring herself to leave.

Rum Runner was really fun. Sophie and Jimmy get into all kinds of trouble as they try to keep the baddies from catching them. Sophie is desperate to meet her father and learn the truth about what happened between her parents. Sadly, her father isn't an easy man to track down. Meanwhile, Jimmy is working for her father, but he also can't let Sophie get hurt because of him. Needless to say, he's not always honest with her, which leads to an annoying fight. But of course, they kiss and make up.

The one thing that I didn't like about Rum Runner was April's chapters. I liked her a lot, actually, but her chapters killed all of the mystery. She overhears something, but isn't quite sure what she heard. Well, as the reader, we know that she just heard the bad guy! Now we don't have to wonder who's behind all of Sophie's trouble in America! There are several more chapters from her POV which spoil what's going on. I really could have done without them, and it would have kept up the mystery until the end.

I did really enjoy Run Runner. Something is always happening and it's a really fun premise. The romance is a pretty typical opposites attract type with Sophie being a proper English lady and Jimmy being an ex-SEAL treasure hunter playboy. Obviously, their attraction is magnified by the adrenaline of near death situations, so it's kind of insta-lovey but believable.
