Who would have thought that turning up at her new home a day earlier than planned would result in Jordan Hawthorne being the one who has a surprise? Suddenly her life turns on its head, forcing her to leave Charlotte NC, her ex-fiancé and her dream job. She finds herself in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, hoping that after hiding out here for a semester or two in her new job at the local community college, she can go back to Charlotte and re-build her life and career.
The weight of responsibility has been on Tom McCloud's shoulders for many years as he runs his late grandparents' farm. He doesn't have a lot of spare time but when he does, he like a whiskey and a woman and definitely not looking to settle down. Doing a maintenance job for his aunt results in him seeing a gorgeous,naked guest in the bathtub. Are his playboy ways about to end?
Tom has got to be THE most polite cowboy ever. His naivety when it comes to dating is so endearing. He's clueless but you can't ever doubt his enthusiasm to get to know this stunningly beautiful woman who is new in town. Jordan's reactions to Tom are likewise adorable as she keeps Tom on his toes, showing she doesn't take any cr*p. Mistakes and misunderstandings are a given, but neither loose focus on their growing love for one another.
The author has written a wonderful introduction to this colourful southern town. As well as our protagonists, we have a host of other characters that add further a dimension to the overall plot, increasing the overall appeal of the book. The sexual tension between Jordan and Tom is sizzlingly hot, leaving no doubt in our minds that these too are destined to be together... once a skeleton from the past is taken care of. There is romance, hot sex, humour, angst and heartbreak, combining to make this a fabulous début novel, leaving me thirsty for more.
