After the cliffhanger at the end of Feast of Fools, I was eager to pick up Lord of Misrule. Morganville is still up in flames and at war, but Amelie has a plan, and everyone has their part. It was interesting to see the return of that book Claire tracked down in the very first book after it's extended absence.
I wasn't as impressed with this fifth installment of the series. I did read it straight through in a few hours, but it was just a quick and easy read, not necessarily an interesting and engaging one. The timeline of this one is only two or three days, but it's all very repetitive. Claire and company travel to various places around Morganville, get into a scuffle, lose one of their companions, then do it all over again a few hours later. I was expecting more after the blow up in the previous book, but that didn't happen.
However, the last two chapters really pick up, and the final one was fantastic! It's another cliffhanger, the most major one yet. This book does have its moments though. Eve delivers some great lines as always, and Claire and Shane's relationship reaches a new level. Overall, it felt like a filler book, but was still mostly enjoyable. It also sets us up for some huge changes within Morganville's leadership.
