Gypsy Truths by Kristy Cunning

Gypsy Truths (All The Pretty Monsters, #6)

by Kristy Cunning

After spending the vast majority of my life lonely, I came to this town to find answers about my mother, and instead, stumbled upon a secret society full of monsters I never knew existed outside of dark tales.

Now I've built a sanctuary, gotten in the middle of an ages-old feud between various monster factions, and somehow ended up with an ancient, queen-like tyrant targeting me, because my life sucks sometimes.

I don't know how these things keep happening to me. They just do.

Tensions keep climbing, and everyone's on edge while waiting and watching to see what Idun Neopry does next.

In the midst of all that, the secrets spill, the lies unravel, and the half-truths finally come to full fruition. It's been one hellish snowball ride to make it this far, and I'm mostly ready for anything that comes next.

That's a lie, actually. But I'd like for it to be the truth. For now, hoping for the best is all I have. Well, I guess that's a lie too. Hope's not all I have.

I also have a Van Helsing, who can slay a small army without wrinkling his shirt. Then there's a Morpheous, who can toy with my mind in ways I never imagined. I've got a wolf, who makes it a goal to keep me human-ish. And there's a vampire, who enjoys killing and stabbing.

Ancient alphas, old vendettas, super-complicated histories, mass-death threats, and a lot of personal baggage. That's become a Tuesday morning coffee break to me by now.

Like I said, my life sucks sometimes.

It's the end of the Monsters as we know it...

I have been waiting impatiently for Gypsy Truths to finally release and when it did, I was a wee bit excited to get started. The story downloaded and I got the shock of my life when I saw how long it was. Each instalment so far has averaged 300 pages and this was more than double that. At first, I was stoked that we'd get more time and story for Violet, Arion, Damien, Emit and my beloved Vance. As the story progressed, I started to get overwhelmed, bogged down and completely confused. Yes, I gave it four stars but I think that has more to do with the series than this particular instalment.

I guess I was used to short bursts of warp-speed action and adventure, mixed with lots of sexy shenanigans. In Gypsy Truths we still get the warp-speed action and adventure, mixed with lots of sexy shenanigans BUT it's on repeat cycle over and over and over again. There's only so much heart-stopping...then heart-accelerating I can do in one story. It was just a little too much.

AND...

...KABOOM!!

HOW DID SHE DO THAT???
HOW DID THEY DO THAT???
WAIT A MINUTE...WHO DID WHAT???
Everything is revealed... nothing is the same...
HOW THE HECK DID THAT HAPPEN SO QUICKLY?!?!?!

I really enjoyed All The Pretty Monsters and loved getting to know Violet and her monsters. The harem action is pretty tame and doesn't go into too much detail, but gives enough to keep me satisfied. Anna again plays a pivotal role and keeps us entertained with her brash and humorous take on what is going on around Violet. Idun...things definitely change in this one and I can't decide if I'm happy with how things played out in the end. It was all kind of weird.

Did I enjoy the series? Yes
Was it sexy? YES
Were my emotions involved? Yes
Was I happy with the ending? Yes...mostly
Would I re-read? I'd consider buying the audio...maybe
Does this book need an editor? YES!!!!!

If you're looking for something a little different, have the patience of a saint, and like reading about four men dedicated to one woman's happiness, I definitely recommend giving All The Pretty Monsters a try.
