We meet Jean-Marie d'Aumout as a penniless orphan eating beetles by the side of a road. His fate is changed after an unlikely encounter finds him patronage and he is sent to military academy. Despite his lowly roots, and thanks to wit and courage in great measure, he grows up to become a diplomat and spy.

I am not going to lie, I bought this book because of the cover. It was different and it intrigued me. I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading, but it was certainly not this. I'm still wondering what to really think of it. I guess I have to re-read it some time and then decide how I feel about it.
