Accidental Demon Slayer by Angie Fox

Accidental Demon Slayer (Biker Witches Novel, #1)

by Angie Fox

A New York Times bestselling, breakout novel

My name is Lizzie Brown, and demon slayer wasn't my first career choice. It didn't even crack the list. I had a good thing going as a preschool teacher until my long-lost Granny blew into my life riding a Harley and raving about a demon on my toilet.

Why did she have to be right?

He was from the seventh layer of hell, and I killed his ass faster than you can say flush. Now Grandma insists I'm a demon slayer, destined to ride with her geriatric gang of biker witches.

Do I even own a leather jacket?

Crazier still, this new job comes with my own personal protector: Dimitri Kallinikos, a devastatingly hot, Greek shape-shifting griffin with beautiful eyes and a not-so-secret plan to seduce me.

I could get on board with that.

But I can't get too involved because Dimitri needs me to take care of some hellish personal business for him, and I'm not about to let a guy I barely know take me anywhere near the underworld. At least not on the first date. But there's a bigger danger brewing than either of us can imagine-and if I can't stop the rise of Hell on Earth, no one can.

The Accidental Demon Slayer was cute and fun, but not exactly my thing. It's Lizzie's 30th birthday and she's getting ready to go out with friends when her grandmother--whom she's never met--shows up and locks her in the bathroom. Lizzie has no idea what's going on, but Grandma claims to be a witch and that Lizzie is a demon slayer who is now coming into her powers. Then she's attacked by demons, her dog starts talking to her, and next thing she knows she's on the back of a hot pink motorcycle on her way to Grandma's coven. Happy birthday!

The beginning of The Accidental Demon Slayer was too slapstick and in your face for my liking. It's not a type of humor that works for me, so it set the wrong tone for the book. It was hard for be to get into until things calmed down and the action started. Of course, Lizzie has to be the only demon slayer in existence and of course there's a demon threat and she has to save all of the witches and humanity! I do like these kinds of plots a lot, but for some reason it didn't fully hold my attention here. Maybe because we got off on the wrong foot and never got back on track.

The Accidental Demon Slayer isn't bad. It just wasn't my thing. Other than Lizzie's talking dog, I never felt connected or engaged. I was frustrated at times, especially when one of the witches hates Lizzie on sight and tries to kill her while telling her that she's the only one who can save them. Um, then stop trying to kill her and get to training! I don't know, it was just okay for me. There was stuff I definitely liked and stuff that I didn't.
