Jon is a typical high-school artist. Or so he thinks. When his father vanishes during a struggle with an unknown, creepy, yellow-eyed man, the police are understandably skeptical of Jon's story. Unfortunately, news spreads and rumors fly.
I really liked the relationship that Jon had with his little sister, Sela. Their obvious affection and the way they stuck together was sweet, as was the way he stayed with her until she fell asleep so she wouldn't have nightmares.
I also loved Chaz, Jon's uncle, who is a judge with the JAGs. Chaz installs a punching bag for Jon and teaches him to fight. He also makes Jon work out. One of my favorite lines in the story was when they are talking about the "guns" Chaz has. He tells Jon that he is starting to to develop guns, too, to which Jon replies that if he has guns, they are popguns.
An unlikely group of teenagers end up taking a journey to the world of Yden where they face the powerful wolf-clan wizard, imps, cygards, a warload, water nymphs (they were mean!) and other magical creatures.
