I've tried on a number of occasions over the years to read Herman Melville's Moby Dick, but to no avail. Somewhere along the way I have given up each time, disappointed at not being able to get through it once more. So, I was interested to see this new graphic novel version of the classic tale at the library, which gave me a chance to get to the end of the story! It may inspire me to pick up the novel once more, but I'm not hiding my breath.

I liked the way this one was drawn. The characters seemed quite real and being in black and white seemed to add to the darkness of the story. It's probably not one I'd buy for myself, but it is still worth checking out. I have no idea how it compares to the novel, but the person who wrote the foreword has read the original on numerous occasions and had nothing but high praise for this adaptation. I'm glad I finally got to 'read' Moby Dick, although something in the back of my mind tells me I really haven't yet. We'll see what happens in the future.
