The romance between Kyoshi and Rangi was lovely. It wasn’t forced, it did not take over the story, and it did not overtake their friendship.
Probably my only complaint about the story is the fact that we should care so much about their mission to rescue this one prisoner, but I saw no reason to care. Sure, I cared about the group’s lives, but the stakes didn’t feel as high in this novel, even though a lot of people died.
I had not expected that there would be any political intrigue, which became one of the best things of this book. The complicated relationships, scheming, and betrayal made me bump up this rating from a three star book to a four star book.
