Plot Summary
After inheriting the dark Van Alen Legacy, Schuyler fled to Florence with her forbidden love, Jack. Now the two of them must embark on the mission Schuyler was destined to complete: to find and protect the five remaining gates that guard the earth from Lucifer, lord of the Silver Bloods.

Back in New York, Mimi has been elected Regent of a crumbling coven. Struggling with her heartache over the loss of Kingsley and with her overwhelming desire to destroy Jack, she must focus all of her energy on a perilous new threat. Vampires are being abducted and their captors are planning to burn them alive online...for all the world to see. Help arrives in the form of Deming Chen, a Venator from Shanghai, who must untangle the web of deceptions before the killers strike again.

As the young vampires struggle for the survival of the coven, they uncover a deadly secret, a truth first discovered by Schuyler’s mother during the Renaissance but kept buried for centuries. And as the Blue Blood enclave weakens yet further, fate leads Schuyler to a terrible choice that will ultimately map the destiny of her heart.

Hi everyone. This is the fifth book in the series of Blue Bloods. I love this series if you haven’t tell. The way Melissa writes is very good and awesome. In this book she has four parts and the first three are with someone else.

Of course Melissa starts with Schuyler who is her main character as Sky is the character that the first few books were based on. Melissa never did any first person point of view which I think is good since first person is good for some books but for this one I believe that third person point of view is the best.

This book takes place a month after The Van Alen Legacy book left with Sky and Jake leaving Oliver and Mimi behind. They are now trying to figure out with where the third Gate of Hell is so that they could make sure that nothing bad is happening to it.

One of the things that I like about this book and the series is that all of the characters seem so real and that I can actually talk to them in real life. Even if they are vampires. What I also like is that yeah they are vampires who have lived for a pretty long time and yeah most of them are just supposedly “teenagers” and some people don’t think that they should be acting like 50 year olds. The way I think about this is that since they are able to relive all of their past lives and with that I believe eventually it would take a toll on the vampire especially in Mimi’s case on having to be older and try to lead these vampires that it will make the vampire act older and probably fell older than what they actually are. But that is just my idea on something like that. I also like how she goes back and forth about where the book is leading up to in the past to the present. Like in the first book with the Mayflower stuff from Cordelia’s past life and we go off to the present time.

I guess I don’t really have any dislikes….well besides the whole thing of that I just want someone to have a happy ending. I mean I was routing for Dylan and Bliss. ;’( Still sad that Dylan is gone. He was such a good character. The second couple I am routing for is a tossup between Jake and Sky and Kingsley and Mimi. I mean Kingsley and Mimi are like so cute with their bickering. Or at least in my head whenever I was reading about them they were cute. I also wonder if maybe Abbandon and Azrael were just young and thought they loved each other when they did their bonding that so long ago. Now that they are much older and maybe they might have found the people that they were supposed to fall in love with a long time ago now.

I think that this book is crucial for the plot because we find out about a new type of species. Yes there is more than just Angels, humans, and someone like Sky. We also find out about a new type of evil that our characters will have to deal with. I am also really really really hoping that Charles and Allegra get out of the White Darkness to help Mimi with the Coven and even more that Mimi can find Kingsley if she is ever able to. I am in love with this book series and I know that my mom has told me to critique these a little bit better but I am going to give this book another five stars.
