A Love to Call Mine is a tender story that deals with some serious issues. Max had quite a journey of learning to trust God through cancer, learning to forgive, learning to allow others to help him, and to let them see into his heart.

Despite the serious nature of the book, the overall tone was mostly hopeful (it wouldn’t have been realistic to not have the characters experience some doubt!) While there was a bit of discussion of cancer treatment, chemo effects, and other medical things, they were mostly just mentions and not too much for this wimp to handle. In fact, the author did a great job of handling this subject with great sensitivity and tact.
