I read (and loved) The Forbidden Man - where Mateo and Vera appear - so I was excited to read their love story.

I liked Vera - she made a few bad choices in the book, but they actually made sense for her Character. I really like Mateo!!! I think ultimately, Vera was a bit too young to hold my interest. Yes, this is a age-gap romance, but it was only from Vera's perspective and I would have appreciated Mateo's thoughts on the events as they happened. There is a book from his perspective which I plan to read.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed but ultimately glad I decided to read this book. I look forward to more from Karina Halle.
