"One day a young couple wakes to find a boy asleep on their porch. Unable to speak, the boy cannot explain his history. What kind of people would leave their child with strangers? All John and Marta know is that they have been chosen to care for this boy. As their connection to him grows, they embrace his exuberant spirit and talents. Last October I discovered how much I had been missing by not having ever read something by [a:Sharon Creech|11633|Sharon Creech|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1201118462p2/11633.jpg]. After reading and discovering [b:The Great Unexpected|13623948|The Great Unexpected|Sharon Creech|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1337642216s/13623948.jpg|18182894] I knew that had to change and I wanted to get my hands on all her novels that I could. Thus when I discovered a short book coming this September with the name of [b:The Boy On The Porch|17332435|The Boy On The Porch|Sharon Creech|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1362431264s/17332435.jpg|24036111] I knew I had to read it. I'm so glad I did.

The Boy on the Porch makes me think of a flair of August Rush and The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Suddenly there is a just a boy, a mute, unique, tapping musical boy, and the young couple (who owns that porch) lives are changed forever. Jacob is a special boy and it is through his existence that in the future many lives are changed. The chapters are short and sweet and interesting to really keep the pages turning. The end put tears in my eyes and a hitch in my throat.

As an early chapter book reader for the 8-12 set or a read aloud this one flows and works really well. Anyone should be recommended to read it, but especially foster families and foster children. All in all it's a beautiful story, a beautiful legacy.
