Me and Her

Me and Her picks up about a month after the end of Always Her. Elise and Jack have been spending all of their free-time together and luxuriating in their new relationship. But now it's time to come up for some air. Jack is a bit worried that Elise is stuck in her teenage fantasies of Jack. While Elise is struggling with coming out to her friends and family. They need to work through both of these issues instead of just having sex all of the time if they want their relationship to really work.

I liked Me and Her much better than the first book. It's still short, but it jumps right into the romance as well as their accompanying problems. It doesn't go too deep into Jack's worries, which was a bit of a bummer. Jack really came to care about Elise and wasn't sure if she really returned those feelings. I wish they had had a longer conversation about it rather than just the few lines toward the end. But a lot of time is spent on Elise finally coming out. She's afraid of alienating her sister, and she feels like she doesn't look gay enough and won't be accepted. I found that latter issue most interesting, because society does have these preconceived notions of what lesbians should look like and anyone who doesn't look that way, they're shocked to have come out.

Me and Her also has a lot of sex! Jack and Elise can't keep their hands and mouths off of each other! Even though she's getting a lot of attention, this does make Elise insecure because she feels like Jack is ashamed to be seen with her for not looking edgy enough. Of course, her insecurities are unfounded and they do start going out in public together. And having sex in public places! Those two are quite adventurous!

In the end, I really liked Me and Her. It does end in a kind of odd place. It's not a cliffhanger, but it felt like a sudden stop. I'm hoping that means there's more. If not, I think it was a satisfying ending to their story.
