The Iron Flower by Laurie Forest

The Iron Flower (Black Witch Chronicles, #2)

by Laurie Forest

In this magical sequel to The Black Witch , Elloren Gardner must embrace a power she never knew she had to hold back the dark forces sweeping across Erthia.

Elloren Gardner and her friends were only seeking to right a few wrongs when they rescued a Selkie and freed an military dragon. The last thing they expected was to be thrust into a realm-wide underground resistance against Gardnerian conquest.
While the Resistance struggles to fight back against the harsh rulings of the Mage Council, more and more Gardnerian soldiers descend upon the University...led by none other than Lukas Grey, now commander of the nearby military base. Though Elloren tries to keep him at arm's length, Lukas is determined to tie himself to her, still convinced that she is the next Black Witch, the destined vessel for a magic that will decide the future of all Erthia. As his own magic calls out to her, seeking to awaken a dark force within, Elloren finds it more and more difficult to believe that she's truly powerless, as her uncle always claimed.
Caught between her growing feelings for the rebellious Yvan Guriel and the seductive power offered by Lukas, Elloren must find a way to stay true to what she knows is right and protect everyone she loves...even if that means protecting them from herself.

This is the sequel to The Black Witch which was not greeted with a lot of raving reviews.  Though i for one love this series as it is about a Witch who has grown up priveleged and has no clue how the world works.  This second book is more about her discovering what she always known is not true.  She spends this whole second book trying to right the wrongs of her people and fighting against the belief that she is the black witch descended from her grandmother.   This series is all about throwing what people have ingrained in society and trying to change it.   This is a monster of a book which sometimes can make it drag but that is not the case each part of the story adds to the development of the characters and sets us up perfectly for the next book in the series.   This is a well thought out series with lots of twists and turns and very well developed characters.  This is one series where you need to pick up for your self and look beyond what others have said and find the treasure within yourself.
