Flesh and Bone by Jonathan Maberry

Flesh and Bone (Rot & Ruin, #3)

by Jonathan Maberry

The perfect read for fans of The Walking Dead, from an award-winning author.

In the land of the dead, four friends search for the key to life…

Still reeling from the terror and tragedy that has followed them across the Rot and Ruin, Benny, Nix, Lilah and Chong search for the jet they saw in the skies months ago. Because it means that humanity itself must have survived… somewhere.

They encounter fierce animals and death cults, not to mention the zombies-swarms devouring everything in their paths. And these zoms are different. Faster, smarter, and infinitely more dangerous. Has the zombie plague mutated, or is there something far more sinister behind this new invasion of the living dead?

One thing Benny and his companions can't afford to forget: In the great Rot and Ruin, everythingwants to kill you.

I went into Flesh & Bone mad because of the previous book, but then I ended with excitement! So much happens! So much is revealed! It is intense! Benny and the gang have continued their mission of finding that jet (finally!). It's one month later and they've ended up in the Nevada desert, where things are stranger than they ever imagined. And there's something more dangerous than Gameland hiding amongst the trees: the Night Church aka Reapers. Their holy mission is to end the human race and embrace the darkness, which means taking out the one true safe haven.

Flesh & Bone started off a little annoying for me. The opening scene is quite exciting, except that it's obvious Benny isn't going to die. There are still 900 pages left in the series, so c'mon?! Also, I hate children, so I was hoping Benny would throw that little girl to the zombies and save himself some trouble. Yes, I'm a horrible person. Anyway, after that, it appeared to follow the exact same formula as Dust & Decay, which meant my hate for Chong grew even more. However, soon enough things get really good! Benny and Nix discover awesome stuff! Lilah discovers someone awesome (again)! And something horrible happens to Chong (again) but it's awesome! I was on the edge of my seat!

There is really not a lot I can say about Flesh & Bone because it's all spoilers! We learn why people are reanimating, but not necessarily how. And why not all zombies behave the same. Science! We meet a bunch of religious nuts who want to take over the world for reasons! Chong becomes interesting because of stuff! Benny and Nix communicate! Lilah discovers something creepy as heck (in addition to the awesome person)! It's a whole different world out there, and you will need Fire & Ash on hand to read immediately!
