I know many may disagree with me here, but I’m already in love with this West Coast Avengers series. Yeah, the villains and plot may be a bit too silly, but it’s a really fun series and has done a wonderful job of getting me to laugh.
As a huge bonus; we get to see characters that we never expected to be in the same room interacting, so what more could you ask for? Plus, if I’m being honest, it’s always bugged me that the West Coast is more or less ignored when it comes to superheroes and their plots. Though maybe the West Coast prefers it that way… (Where there are heroes there are villains).
Obviously Gwenpool is one of my favorite characters, so I’m thrilled to see her pop up in this series. Unlike a lot of cameos with her in the past (looking at you Champions), this Gwenpool felt much more true to the character Christopher Hastings developed.
There are a few standout laugh out loud moments in this issue…but they’re also not the sort of moments I want to ruin. Let’s just say that after I described a couple of them to my husband, he went and decided that he clearly needs to read the series for himself. I’d call that a win.
I loved the artwork for this issue. They covered both the serious and the comical very well, managing to find a balance between the two (not an easy task to be sure). What I really love is all of the bright colors being used here. I know it’s probably partially the whole West Coast thing going on – but it really works.
