I received this book for free from Berkley Prime Crime in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like Margo. A woman who chooses to dress in costumes even when not working at a costume shop? I thought it would be too silly. But it actually worked fairly well. It fit her character, and was believable, even when some of the costumes were a trifle more on the exotic side.
I loved the twists and turns in the book. And getting to know the characters in the town. I was pretty sure I knew who the killer was by somewhere around the half-way mark, but that didn't detract at all from my enjoyment of the rest of the book.
I really liked how Margo interacted with her father, as well as Ebony. You could tell they were all close, and not just because Margo said they were. Which she did, but there was a lot of showing it as well as telling it. I also really liked Tak. He was mysterious, smart, and had a really strong set of ethics.
This was a great first book, and I can't wait to see what the next book has in store. If you haven't read this one yet, you need to!
Recipes Included: Hoshiyama Fried Rice, Cach-22 Salvadorian Shrimp Salad, Fresh Salsa Roja Dressing, Margo's Easy Fruity Pebbles Dinner.
There's also costume ideas, and a sneak peek at the next book in the series.
