I kept hearing great things about this book, and after a while i finally decided to read it. I was not disappointed!
The deliria, or the love disease, is something that everyone fears. The city is protected by a border, a wall that surrounds the city to keep the disease out. Sympathizers, that go against these beliefs are arrested, tossed into the Crypts, or worse. Children are brought up believing that it is not normal to love, to touch another person, especially one of the opposite sex. They look forward to turning 18 so that they can get cured, matched with a mate and go on to live happy, pain free lives. Everything is censored and monitored, and they all live in fear of the disease, and what it can do to you.
Lena is just like the rest of them, especially since the deliria got a hold of her mother when she was younger. She ended up committing suicide, just before her third time having the operation to get rid of what love she had in her. Growing up, Lena counted down the days to her procedure, so she wouldn’t turn out like her mother, so she could fit in with society and be safe.
Everything is going well, until the day of her testing to find her rating score and discover her match for a husband. Something interrupts the test, and shortly after she starts to change.
I highly recommend this book, especially to fans of Dystopian stories. I’m very glad the second book is out now, I can’t wait to read it!
