Beauty and the Beast

by Mahlon F. Craft

Award-winning team Mahlon and Kinuko Craft bring us a gorgeous and vivid retelling of the classic story of Beauty and the Beast in this stunningly illustrated picture book. The tale is as old as time: A man steals a rose from the garden of a beast. His beautiful daughter sacrifices herself to a life in the beast's castle to protect her father. The beast and the girl fall in love and live happily ever after...This beloved tale is captured with lyrical prose and lavish illustration. In the spirit of the Crafts' previous collaborations, their acclaimed fairy-tale retellings of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, this timeless tale is brought to life with sumptuous paintings and ornamental detail in this lush picture book to be cherished at story time again and again.

Read ARC. LOVE! Want a real copy to add to our collection. Review to come.

Today has been a miserable pregnancy migraine day. But the light point was when my newly eight-year-old daughter came to me and asked if I would read her this book. It is part of the mythology study in our Memoria Press Simply Classical Level 4 Curriculum (ages 8-11). I still am reading from an advanced reader copy, but it is so gorgeous and I definitely hope to add a real copy to our shelf one day. This is perhaps my favorite picture book variation of the Beauty & the Beast fable and the K.Y. Craft illustrations are full of mystery and beauty to admire. We will be reading this again several times over the next few weeks as we go in-depth with discussion, vocabulary, and more.

Thanks to HarperCollins for the ARC so many years ago that is still dear and special to my heart.
