Seeing Double by Tamra Baumann

Seeing Double (A Heartbreaker Novel, #1)

by Tamra Baumann

Dani Botelli has vowed to step out of her demanding movie star mother’s shadow, and is determined to start a new chapter in her life. But two men vying for her attention are making for double the trouble. There’s Jake, her police detective almost-ex who wasn’t so hot as a husband but still has the hots for Dani. And as usual, he needs her intuition and visions to help him solve a crime. Then there’s her high school crush, Michael, a former NFL pro who’s now her mom’s hunky lawyer.

Working alongside Jake, while keeping her special gifts under wraps, is proving to be more dangerous than Dani realized. She needs to stay out of harm’s way—and out of Jake’s flirtatious path—long enough to find out if Michael is the one. But will her hard-to-explain hunches be the secret that comes between them?

A National Reader’s Choice Award finalist.

Who?
•Dani, daughter of a famous movie star, who was trying to make it on her own, while also trying to amicably divorce her husband.
•Michael, a former NFL star and current lawyer, with major trust issues due to a messy divorce.

What?
Michael and Dani grew up together as best friends, but then Dani suddenly severed that friendship, right when Michael was ready to declare his feelings for her. Multiple situations have brought them back into each others' world, and this may be their second chance at love.

Why?
I am a BIG fan of the It Had to Be books, so I was very excited to hear Baumann had a new series coming out. Although this book did not replicate my initial experience with that series, it has the makings to get to that point.

A second chance romance with a murder plot and a paranormal twist. Sometimes I felt like Baumann was trying to get too much into this story, but when she focused on Michael and Dani, I forgot all those feelings, because I loved the couple so much.

This book was all about the characters for me, and there are so many fun and wonderful characters in this book. Dani was fighting with all her might to make it on her own, but she never let it change who she was deep down inside - a lovely, big-hearted woman. Michael was very protective. A doting father and dedicated son, he liked taking care of the women in his life, but knew he had to treat Dani differently, if he was going to win her heart. Then there was Dani's family - mom, grandmother, and sister, were all spitfires, who add lots of color to any scene they are in. And I could not forget Jake, Dani's ex-husband, who could charm the pants off of you. The dynamic between him and Dani was very interesting and complicated, but made sense when more details are revealed.

Overall: A fun romance filled with several sub-plots to keep your interest and lots of great characters I would like to know better.
