They do it again! Amos Cassidy's Crimson Series was a unique foray into Urban Fantasy, and I had no idea how they were going to do it with a new series, but they did. And they did it so well.

Jake Pendragon is a man trying for a new start. A horrific incident shattered his life and he thinks moving to a small town would be just what he needs. He meets some interesting people, weird things happen, people start dying, and he realizes he is somehow involved. But the reader is kept guessing right up until the end. You are getting breadcrumbs as you read, but the "big reveal" is still so unexpected that I just sat and stared at my Kindle for a few blinks.

My heart was breaking for Jake the whole time. He would start to heal, then bam, something would happen to remind him of all he lost. Or he would learn something new and incredible to turn his life upside down. Fortunately he makes new friends that know a little something about what he is going through and can help him out.

The side characters are just as entertaining and loveable as Jake. My favorite is Greg. He is the perfect neighbor and I really wish he could move in next door to me. But unfortunately for all of us, he isn't a real live person. And that thought makes me a little sad.

The mythology used in The Rain is one you don't commonly see used in Urban Fantasy books. It was a pleasant surprise, so I won't tell you what it is, but I think you will like it!
