A very nice conclusion to the series, had me at the edge of my seat most of its run.

───────────────────

I find talking about this book to be somewhat hard, not because it lacked things to discuss, au contraire; there are simply too many things in it. The main reason for this I believe is that Jay Kristoff, always has a form of a journey in these books that allows him to expand on different things. Here, the fact that this book doesn’t just handle one location gives him the bigger chance to expand on all the remaining plot points and when able, actually wrap them up in a satisfying manner. Did he do that? Hell, yes. Granted it’s not as satisfying as Rachel Caine’s Sword and Pen, but I’m so happy about most of the turns of events in the series.

Main one however? The brutality in it. Mia has always been one of the very few warrior female characters who says something about her capabilities and manages to pull through every single time, in this book Jay Kristoff doesn’t shy away from having her go into instances where she’s not going to come out of it without even more blood on her hands. I loved that so much, it’s unreal. One more thing I really enjoyed is the closer look I got in the legends of the world and how they tie up to the world of Nevernight and the characters in it. Her shadowy friends were always favourites and I’m definitely glad that they got an even bigger focus.

Better yet, the twist he added with the titles of Nevernight, Godsgrave and Darkdawn in the book as a really felt point was epic. I haven’t been that pleasantly surprised in a while, but damn it was ingenious.

Other than the point above, this book also shows the growth of several characters. Mia obviously being the main one, and it wasn’t just because of the situations she was put in, she now has her brother with her and this new found relationship won’t be easy to live with or work around, but they definitely try. Old and new faces all around, but what I’m most happy about is that almost everyone got their time to shine and show me more of their capabilities, especially the Speaker that was fun. As for the weaver? long overdue gentlefriend, long overdue.

The book doesn’t stop in one area like I mentioned before, Mia is journeying till the end and through that we see her make stops that seem kind of unnecessary, but I still end up seeing interesting things and see her reach new heights with her powers so I end up happy regardless. It’s interesting to see how she deals with stuff sometimes, the old faces play a big role here with her ideas and the triangle romance wasn’t my thing, but I did enjoy almost everything else so I’ll only leave the romance as the meh part of the book.

I’m talking very vaguely about this book for one simple reason, it’s easy to spoil. Really, even if I sit here and gush about this, there are many interesting my style sort of things that happened here that left me very interested to see how it will unfold and getting that spoiled would have been insanely painful so I’ll leave it here with the advise to read this series, it’s a very entertaining one if you like this sort of stuff.
