I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

I feel really bad about The Species Within, but I just couldn't finish it. I've spent days trying to connect with these characters and get invested in the plot. It's just not happening. I think that this COULD be a great fit for a lot of people, it just wasn't for me.

Why it didn't work for me:

- Too many POVs. There is a LOT going on and yet not enough. Because there's so many POVs there's a lot of story lines to keep track of and at the same time, the story moves forward very slowly because you keep jumping around.

- I was almost invested in the Main MCs story, but I can't grow to like her. She's just a bit too obstinate for me - it's like she's trying to be kick ass and while she easily could be, her attitude just isn't making her at all likeable for me.

- It's kind of paranormal romance and kind of urban fantasy, teetering on the edge of erotica. I like all these genres, but as it turns out, I guess I don't like them too combined. I can't get settled into the right reading mood because it just keeps changing.

So it didn't work for me and I'm calling it.

Time of death: 40%.

It had real promise and who knows, that last 60% might have done it if I could have pushed through.
