When she was 14, Ha's mother moved them from Seoul to Alabama. I would be a fish out of water in Alabama. I couldn't imagine how it would be for someone immigrating there. Ha shared memories of that time of adjustment, but she also looks back on her life in Korea and life with her mom, in general. I liked seeing how much she grew during her first year in the US. Not only did she gain a better understanding about herself, she also began to see her mother in a different light. Although they experienced a rough patch during her time of adjustment in the states, Ha's mother was always depicted as strong. She was someone, who made sacrifices and got stuff done. I also really liked the illustrations. They beautifully captured these moments in Ha's life, as well as the emotions attached to them. I was lovely to get to share these pieces of her life.
