The Soul Collector by Dr Paul Johnston

The Soul Collector

by Dr Paul Johnston

Brutally targeted by the "White Devil" serial killer, crime writer Matt Wells knows what it's like to look evil in the face and survive. He's rebuilt his life--but with a disciple of his tormentor still at large, he has never stopped looking over his shoulder. When mystery writers start dying and his friend is found murdered, Matt's paranoia appears well-founded. Now he must use all his resources to orchestrate the psychopath's end. But as cryptic clues to the next victims mock him, it is chillingly clear that his dance with the devil has only just begun ...

To be perfectly honest, I thought the book was absolutely wonderful and thought the book was a stand alone, up until I noticed that the "narrator," Matt Wells, had written a book called The Death List, which of course, Mr. Johnston has also written a book by that title. Of course, that one actually goes before The Soul Collector. Of course, I read the second book first.

The gist of the story is this - The White Devil's sister is gunning for Matt Wells due to the book he wrote chronicling the White Devil's killing spree. The title of the book? The Death List, of course. She leads him on a harrowing ride, trying to figure out who she'll kill next. But when an unexpected twist occurs, it's up to Matt to get to the bottom of the mystery here.

Add to this that his girlfriend is the head of the VCCT, an elite squad of police officers for New Scotland Yard. Obviously, she won't be thrilled with him taking the law into his own hands. If you can guess what will happen in the end, you're a much better mystery reader than I am! I never figured anything out ahead of time like I usually do with mysteries.

I must obtain a copy of The Death List as well, so that I might get the back story to this wonderful novel!
