Guys, I can't even begin to tell you how much I love Staci Hart's books. If I wasn't already a fan before, I'm completely hooked on her writing. Her characters are relatable and Staci's heroines are the best. And Rin, I believe she's my spirit animal. I loved her so much, her insecurities were real, something all of us lovely ladies can relate to. We all have ours and I loved seeing her overcome them throughout this book. And partner Rin with the rather sinful hero who has insecurities of his own. It just makes for an amazing story of not only love between the both of them but self-love. Piece of Work has been easily added to my #RSFaves for the year; love love love!
Where do I even begin? Rin ... loved her so much, I truly want her as my best friend. More than anything, I loved watching her grow. Her friends are seriously f*ckin amazing and they're ones that you'd always want in your corner. Rin is on the shy side, but to me, it was a bit of a front because her inner dialogue had so much to stay and I KNEW she was more than capable of saying them, she just needed that extra little push. And she got plenty of that from her bosses at her internship. She's feisty and definitely someone you don't want on your bad side. The more you push, she'll push the hell back! My kind of girl if you ask me. And her love of packaged snacks and hip-hop, I say again, my kind of girl!
Court ... the ever complicated hero that was completely done as soon as he set his eyes on Rin. A man who has been terribly burned by the two people who should have always been on his side; his father and now ex. I totally understand his lack of trust in people, but he definitely held onto that like a clutch but don't they ever, which made him every bit of an a**hole. Especially to someone who didn't even deserve it, Rin. I love that she constantly called him out on his BS and I think he definitely brought out that side of her to speak her mind when it was absolutely necessary. As much as I loved Court and his sexy-sinful ways, he needed to be put in his place. But these two together are all passion and fire, they're so hot together. They both seem to lose their inability to think when they're together, but the heart what it wants. There's no fighting that.
Okay, now I have to talk about Rin's best friends! I wish I had friends like that, they're honestly the best. I loved how supportive they were of Rin and help pushed her past her boundaries. Red Lipstick Coalition. The truth about lipstick,
"we just have to be brave enough to wear it."
But seriously, I loved that they constantly pushed her up and never brought her down. The definition of what we should be doing for each other in the first place. Grab your lipstick ladies and wear the sh*t out of it. There's nothing sexier than pushing yourself past boundaries and wearing it with pride. Own it, you got this. And that's exactly what Rin did, she was still the same person, but her self-confidence was blooming. And please tell me they get their own books!
Before I ended this review, just wanted to touch on what goes through curating a museum. I had no idea about how it works and now it just makes more curious than ever. With the chance to live in Europe, we've been soaking up visiting all the amazing museums, now I'll be wondering about all the exhibits and how it came to be. And is there really that much drama when it comes to curating? I need to know more!
Staci, thank you so much for giving us a character that we don't always see too often in the romance genre. Or at least, ones I haven't come across until recently. There are powerful women of all race and ages and this year, I've seen them more in my beloved romance genre. With everything that's been going on in the world today, Piece of Work sent a beautiful message to women. I can honestly say that it inspired and empowered me. Love yourself, you're beautiful inside and out.
Ladies, be ready to feel empowered as you read Piece of Work. Staci, as I've said countless times before, I'm forever a fan!
