It is said that first impressions are everlasting, but for me, at least in terms of books, it's that last impression that is important. When I turned that last page of Soundless, I had a tear in my eye and a smile on my face. As far as I'm concerned - mission accomplished.

I do agree with many of the reviews I read, in terms of the story being a little too short, that some parts felt more like snippets. But, the story was also fast paced, filled with quite a bit of action, provided answers to all the big questions, was able to pull me into this soundless world, and even gave me an epilogue. I adored Fei and Li Wei, and this love that has endured for so long, through class system obstacles. I cared about the characters, and was outraged at the exploitation and deprivation of the villagers.

Overall: a very enjoyable read.
