I had never read a book by Vivienne Lorret and I obviously didn't have a life before picking up this book. I can't believe I waited so long to read her books! I fell so hard for the characters in this novel. I went into this third novel without having read the previous books in the series. However, I never felt like I had missed out on anything.

Max and Juliet had been friends once. Juliet had her sights on Max's brother while Max only had eyes for her. Unable to hide his feelings any longer, he started to show Juliet just how much he wanted her. Unfortunately, they were caught and Juliet fled to avoid all the gossip, even when Max had told her he'd married her. Max was heartbroken and furious. When Juliet returns as a widow and ready to buy her childhood home, she finds out Max is also wanting to buy the home. He doesn't want her living a few houses away from his family's home. Even though he shows he despises her, the truth is he never stopped loving her. A wager is formed between them and whoever wins will be able to keep the house while the other leaves London.

[...] She left without giving him a chance to prove her wrong, discounting him like all the others had. And he would never forgive her for it.

My goodness, what a wonderful romance this story has! I fell so hard for it! Juliet is strong-willed and never lets anyone walk over her. When she returns, the last person she wants to see is Max, but he's just always there. Max is a stubborn yet caring man that my heart melted over. He doesn't want to see Juliet at all. I knew there would be some great banter between these two and Lorret did not disappoint! Honestly, I kept looking forward to the banter. Not only was it fun to read about, it would always give more depth to the characters. Max and Juliet knew each other before, but they started getting to know each other once again. The romance was sweet, scandalizing hot, and with so much depth. There's a scene involving cake, fingers, and mouth. I was fanning my face so hard! Barely anything happened, but holy damn... That was a hot scene *heart eyes* Every time I think of Max and Juliet together, I get all the warm feelings. They are so perfect for each other.

Their rivalry was certainly an oddity. And while he likely thought he was taunting her, she was secretly delighted. If her enemy was the only one who listened to her, then she would like to keep him as her enemy forever.

I want to talk about the wager so much! You see, they had to pick the season's original and if their candidate won, then one of them would stay while the other would leave London altogether. I was so surprised by their choices! I can't say much since it would be a spoiler, but I legit got tears in my eyes towards the end. My heart melted and broke and then melted again. It was just so surprisingly heart-warming! *cue sobs*

I loved the writing for this one. I usually get lost with Historical Romances, but it wasn't the case here. Lorret's writing is very eloquent with so much fluidity. It was so easy to believe the romance with the banter, and the friendships formed in the novel.

Overall, When a Marquess Loves a Woman was such a pleasure to read. I got all the warm feelings and accelerated heart rate over the beautiful and hot romance. I'm definitely looking forward to the following book and hope it's with Ellery and Gemma!
