The book started with a bang and though I don't usually like scenes set in dreams, this one was not too long and I got the sense that it would be important for later. I enjoyed the touch of Creole in the book and the fact that the characters are people of colour. There can never be too much representation in the media.

I also really enjoyed the flashback scenes and how we got to know a little more about why things are the way they are. The author's writing was charismatic and captivating and I loved each one of the characters to bits. The protagonist (Gaella) I do feel, was done exceptionally well and I had no trouble following her along.

Margot's character in the past could have used some more fleshing out but I suppose it moved the story along and that is all that was needed.
