I don’t know where to start with this review! I love this series, I really do! I just had a hard time reading this book. Not because I didn’t like it, I really did, just the storyline of a missing child was hard to read. It makes me never want to let mini-me out of my sight ever again. It’s every parent’s nightmare!

This is a tough case for Quinn and her team, at least she has the FBI to help this time. A young child goes missing, how the hell did she just disappear. Even looking back over video footage and pictures taken by parents at the park, it’s just not clear. Then the rucksack is found in the middle of the carousel where Lucy was abducted with a note to answer the phone.

With each phone call received, a body turns up. The tension ramps up, the secrets uncovered are horrifying and frightening. You feel the tension and the stress the parents are living, every moment and feeling they live, I lived. You also have chapters from unknown characters thrown in between, and it is devastating to see how these chapters link into the story and how the past really can shape a person if they let it. The whole nature vs nurture is strong here as you see an argument for both all through the actions of people who call themselves parents.

Whilst you have the team trying to solve this crime, something isn’t quite right with Quinn and you begin to wonder if some of the actions from the previous book have started to catch up with her. Both Noah and Quinn are still carrying the weight of what happened in the previous book and it adds a sense of realism to the story as they have not just moved on quickly.

It is easy to read these as standalone books but I wouldn’t. I would read the series in order, (although I still need to read book 1 and 2) because you see the change and growth in the team. Although things are mentioned it does not hamper any of the enjoyment or the reading.

Regan’s writing always keeps me engaged and I had to devour her book. It took me a couple of evenings, and I was on edge the whole time reading. The suspense was ramped to the fullest and I really could not see how this would end. I mean would there be a happy ending?

I love that you have a team that everyone pulls their weight and have a place. I mean I couldn’t possibly have a favourite as they all add to the team, they all have had a focus on each of the books and hopefully, Mettner might next time. However, I do have a huge soft spot for Noah, just saying.

I am already excited to see what happens next, and I really hope Quinn gets her vacation man she needs it!!
